Current Interior Design Trends: Inspiration from Europe
Updated: Jun 6, 2019
Milan Design Week ran from 8 to 14th April this year, and the vision of Leonardo da Vinci provided the backdrop for 2019. Known as Salone de Mobile, this prestigious Design Fair is a must in the calendar for anyone serious about the latest trends in design and technology. With elaborate installations, pop-up showrooms and mood-setting designs from around the world, the experience can be a sensory overload. The experienced choose their geographical route carefully to maximise the hundreds of displays available for viewing! We summarise two trend alerts from April 2019: geometry with bold colour and round mirrors.
Geometry and Colour:
Bold and oversized patterns are definitely on trend at the moment, and flooring is a great place to make such a statement. Your home entrance is the first visual experience that visitors have when arriving, so why not have them step into something really special. Choose a pattern and colour that is repeated in other living spaces. This visual linking creates a sense of flow and space, and can be subtle or more elaborate. For example, why not lay the same tiling in your visitor’s bathroom? Alternatively, add some blue, white and gold accent cushions to your living area.
Mirrors create the optical illusion of more space and light when placed correctly in a room. A round mirror adds an extra design element to your space, and a softening effect from the rounded edges. This is particularly advantageous for those rooms that have a strong angular aspect, both architecturally and furniture-wise. Perhaps you’re also looking for that great statement piece for the bedroom or mantel piece. For inspiration, check out Designer Oskar Zieta’s Nucleus Mirror, made of polished stainless steel combined with emerald and sapphire shades.
