This summer, we had the wonderful opportunity to work on a 5-week project in the stunning area of Brook Green. Located in central London, this charming neighborhood is famous for its beautiful Georgian terrace houses, vibrant culture and artistic vibe. In this blog post we share some project highlights and other creative inspirations from London.

The Charm of Brook Green

Brook Green is a lesser-known treasure in London, characterised by picturesque streets and lush parks. The area boasts a variety of architectural styles, but it is particularly famous for its stunning Georgian terrace houses. With their classic facades and intricate details, these elegant structures serve as an ideal backdrop for any interior design project.

During our exploration of Brook Green, we noticed the harmonious mix of historical buildings and modern elements. Leafy gardens, multi-coloured doors, renovated interiors and a diverse culinary scene, the area highlights London's rich history and the ability to adapt to current trends. Situated in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, central Brook Green is a five minute walk to the Tube and 10 minutes to the River Thames.

Project Focus

Welcome to Brook Green Summer 2025

This was quite a multi-faceted role, dealing with a range of trades (boiler engineers, carpenters, rug cleaners, packers, furniture buyers, photographers and real estate agents) to prepare the home for market inspection. And what a home it was: a renovated Georgian terrace home of 300 metres squared across 5 levels; together with a stunning garden complete with squirrels, a few lurking foxes and teeming bird life. The clients were on their annual Switzerland break, before preparing for a move to Malta with 4 children, a rabbit and 2 cats. For this reason the role included vet visits for the animals, to organise microchip travel and up-to-date vaccinations.

The first few weeks involved preparing the garden, kitchen, living areas and bedrooms for inspection, working with the photographer and agents so that the home was presented at it's best. We worked towards a curated style that best displayed the Crittall folding doors onto the garden, the skylights and open-plan kitchen. The living areas and modernised master bedroom and ensuite were kept very minimalist, allowing the sash windows and views to provide the backdrop, while the more traditional children's rooms showcased a real quaintness.

Architectural Inspirations

The intricate moldings, elegant staircases, and spacious layouts of Georgian terrace houses inspire endless design possibilities. For example, we noted how natural light floods this home, creating warm and welcoming spaces. Research shows that incorporating nature into interior spaces can improve focus and reduce stress by up to 30 percent, and the animals also love this aspect.

Sourcing in London: a designer's dream

A day visit to Chelsea Harbour Design Centre, a walk down the Kings Road, and exploring our old stamping ground in Sloane Square unveiled some beautiful pieces from lighting to furniture. We were also interested in what was trending in London. Double drenching rooms in 2 or more colours rather than one shade is a lovely way to highlight architectural features, and bring more drama to a room. We saw a focus on the ceiling as your fifth wall, using different materials and textures as another design element. A trip to Cambridge uncovered more beauty, and the Cartier Exhibition; currently running at the Victoria and Albert Museum in South Kensington; was a special highlight. Taschen, one of our favourite design and architecture bookstores in the Duke of York Square, did not disappoint and from a culinary perspective Roka, in Mayfair, is superb - a true dining experience.

Summary

As interior designers and architects, we continuously strive to create spaces that resonate with their surroundings. Brook Green provided the perfect canvas for our vision. We left this project not only with a deeper appreciation for the area but also with a renewed passion for combining the old with the new. If you find yourself in London, be sure to explore Brook Green. Its unique blend of history, culture, and artistry will inspire anyone with an eye for design. Central London is also right on your door step, and provides a plethora of design experiences. Enjoy!
